How Much Does a Paver Patio Cost in Tampa?

Paver patio installed by Blue Diamond Construction

Angi reports paver patio installation in Tampa typically runs $8 to $25 per square foot, with labor at $4 to $11 per square foot or $50 to $80 per hour, and a 300-square-foot patio taking roughly 35 to 40 hours. Every Blue Diamond Construction project is quoted on site after we measure the space.

What do published numbers say a paver patio costs in Tampa?

The most Tampa-specific figure we can point you to comes from Angi, which reports that brick paver patio installation in Tampa typically runs $8 to $25 per square foot. Within that, Angi puts labor at $4 to $11 per square foot, or $50 to $80 per hour, and says a 300-square-foot patio takes roughly 35 to 40 hours of labor.

Use that as a planning range, not a price. A 300-square-foot patio at the low end of Angi's range and the same patio at the high end are two very different budgets, and the difference is not arbitrary — it comes from the things we describe further down this page.

We do not publish a flat per-square-foot price, because we have never seen two Tampa backyards that priced the same. We come out, measure, look at the grade and the access, and give you a written number. The estimate and the consultation are free.

Why do Florida paver prices online disagree so much?

If you search for a few minutes you will find Florida contractors publishing numbers that are nowhere near each other. Craft Pavers publishes $12 to $32 per square foot installed. JS Brick publishes a figure of roughly $7 per square foot. Those are both real published Florida numbers from real companies, and we are quoting them separately on purpose — averaging them together would produce a figure that describes nothing.

The spread usually comes down to what is included. A low per-square-foot number often assumes a simple rectangle, a clean site, standard paver, minimal base work and no demolition. A high number usually includes thicker base, more compaction, cuts around curves, premium pavers or a job that is hard to get material into.

So when you compare quotes, compare what is written in them: base depth, demolition, edge restraint, drainage, and the specific paver being installed. Two quotes that look far apart on price are often just describing two different amounts of work.

Do paver driveways cost the same as patios?

No. A driveway carries vehicle weight, so the base under it is deeper and more heavily compacted than the base under a patio, and the paver thickness is usually different too.

For Tampa driveways specifically, Angi reports paving a driveway at $3.50 to $7 per square foot on average, with asphalt at $2.40 to $3.75 and concrete at $8.55 to $11 per square foot. Those are material-by-material figures across driveway types, which is why they read differently from the patio range above.

We install patios, walkways, driveways, pool decks and outdoor living areas, and we also handle paver replacement and repair. You can see the full scope on our paver installation service page.

What actually moves the price on a Tampa paver job?

Square footage and shape. Square footage sets the baseline, but shape sets the labor. A straight rectangle installs fast. Curves, radiuses and a pool deck that wraps around coping mean a lot of saw cuts, and every cut is time.

Pattern and paver choice. A running bond with a single paver size is quicker than a herringbone or a multi-size modular pattern, which generate more cuts at every border.

Base preparation. This is the part homeowners never see and the part that decides whether the patio is still flat in five years. Sandy and organic soils around Tampa often need more excavation and more compaction than a quick quote assumes.

Drainage and slope. Our summer rain is not gentle, and water has to leave the patio in a direction that is not your slab. Getting the fall right sometimes means more excavation on one side, a drain, or reworking the grade.

Site access. If a machine and a pallet of pavers can reach the work area, the job is faster. If everything has to come through a narrow side gate by wheelbarrow, labor hours climb. Finally, if there is an existing concrete slab or old pavers to remove and haul away, that is a separate line item.

Do I need a permit, and does that affect the budget?

For patios and driveways, the City of Tampa handles this under its residential driveway, patio slab and deck permits. The city's application guide specifically lists replacing a driveway, reconfiguring one, and changing the material on an existing driveway — concrete to paver, for example — as work that falls under that permit type. See the City of Tampa residential driveway permit application guide.

Plan review can require a site plan showing the area of work, the dimensions of the proposed driveway, property lines and right-of-way dimensions, and if paver blocks are used a paver edge detail may be required. Trees within 20 feet of the work have to be identified by species and diameter, with protective distances for larger specimen and grand trees. Details are on the city's driveway plan review page, which also links a fee calculator.

Requirements change, so confirm the current ones with City of Tampa Construction Services before you budget. We will tell you during the estimate what we expect your project to need.

What do you get in a Blue Diamond estimate?

A free on-site visit. We measure, check grade and access, talk through paver options and tell you what we would do about drainage. Then you get a written, itemized number so you can see where the money goes — that is what transparent pricing means to us.

Frequently asked questions

Is a paver patio more expensive than a concrete slab?

Usually, yes, up front. Angi puts Tampa paver patio installation at $8 to $25 per square foot, and separately reports concrete driveway paving at $8.55 to $11 per square foot. Pavers cost more in labor because each unit is set and cut individually, but individual pavers can be lifted and reset if a section settles or a repair is needed.

Do you charge for the estimate?

No. Estimates and consultations are free. We come out to the property, measure and give you a written price with no obligation.

Can I phase a large outdoor project?

Yes. Many homeowners start with the patio or pool deck and add walkways or a driveway later. Tell us the full plan at the estimate so we can set grades and drainage that will still work when the later phases go in.

How long does a paver patio take to install?

It depends on size, access and base work. For scale, Angi reports that a 300-square-foot patio takes roughly 35 to 40 hours of labor. We give you an estimated timeline in writing before work starts.

Do you install pavers outside Tampa?

Yes. We work in Tampa, Orlando, Miami, Jacksonville and surrounding Florida areas. Permit requirements differ by city, so confirm local rules with the jurisdiction where your home is.
